What is confirmed about how it plays
Each mechanic below appears in the announcement coverage — most in two independent sources. This is the complete list; nothing else about moment-to-moment play has been published.
Turn-based combat
Fights are turn-based, not real-time. The ixbt.games report notes that players can take their time to plan positioning and actions — so reads, not reflexes, decide encounters.
Positioning matters
The same reporting calls out planning where your characters stand before committing to actions. Exact grid or action-point rules have not been published; what is confirmed is that the combat rewards deliberate setup.
Karmic Type dialogue
The r/CRPG announcement thread names a "Karmic Type" system: a karma value that influences dialogue. Expect your accumulated conduct to change what conversations are available to you — the specifics are not yet public.
Isometric perspective
The game presents its post-apocalyptic world from an isometric camera, in the lineage of the classic cRPGs its predecessor mod was built on.
The world you are walking into
Olympus 2249 is set in a post-nuclear, dieselpunk America — described on Steam as an atmospheric journey and in the r/CRPG thread as a brutal dieselpunk world. It continues the setting of Olympus 2207, the Fallout 2 total-conversion mod by the same Russian team, but it is a standalone game: RPGCodex’s report is explicit that you do not need to have played the mod, and no Fallout 2 install is involved.
What to do before launch
Wishlist the game on Steam so the unlock notification reaches you, skim the announcement trailer for the tone, and read the review roundup for how the announcement landed with the cRPG community. That is the full extent of useful preparation a week out. Wishlist on Steam →
